Officers don capes and masks for superhero surprise at Winthrop Avenue School

Bellmore Schools

November 5, 2026

Bellmore’s community heroes traded their uniforms for masks and capes on Nov. 4 as members of the Nassau County Police Department made a grand entrance as superhero alter egos at Winthrop Avenue School for a fun-filled visit that celebrated leadership, teamwork and safety.

Dressed as superheroes that included Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman and Wolverine, officers made a memorable entrance as they stepped off the NCPD’s armored vehicle to run through the crowd and greet students. Smiles and cheers spread throughout staff and students who gathered for the heroes’ surprise appearance.

Beyond the fun, the event provided an opportunity to reinforce important lessons about being positive roles models and leaders who work together and make safe choices. Winthrop’s Winning Star Leaders were reminded that being a hero isn't about wearing a cape, but about looking out for others, helping those around them and making responsible decisions.
